Designing with foundations of openness, inclusivity, and the power of shared knowledge

While working part-time as a barista and teaching coffee classes at a local café, I've been designing a feature for an existing app that would offer detailed information on various coffee beans and at-home brewing methods to help customers make informed decisions when purchasing coffee beans.

/ Collecting data from representative users

but first, research.

What are the real needs and preferences of customers looking to buy beans?

Customers would frequently ask which coffee beans paired best with various brewing methods—however, staff often lacked the training to provide accurate recommendations, resulting in customer uncertainty, complaints about incorrect information, and occasional refund requests due to dissatisfaction with their purchases.

To ensure the app would meet customer needs and preferences, I conducted thorough user research, including surveys with 39 participants and interviews with 10 participants, to gather valuable insights and inform the app's development.
